Intrauterine device (IUDs)
Dr Alison offers insertion and removal of hormonal (Mirena®, Kyleena®) and Copper intrauterine devices (IUDs).
Hormonal IUDs (Mirena®, Kyleena®) provide contraception for 5-8 years. They result in lighter periods (or no periods) and typically reduce pain associated with periods. They can also be used as part of Menopausal Hormone Therapy (previously termed Hormone Replacement Therapy). Hormonal side effects are lower compared to other forms of hormonal contraception, and they can be an option for people who may not be able to use other forms of hormonal contraception.
Copper IUDs last for 5 or 10 years - they are a great option for those wanting a hormone free contraception.
Dr Alison previously worked at Sexual Health Victoria and has a wide experience in inserting IUDs. She prides herself on providing a safe, calm and comfortable space and ensuring patients have access to evidenced based information to make the right decision for them.
